The Government has issued strict new rules on staying at home and away from others and has specifically advised the public only to leave the house for one of four reasons.
- Shopping for basic necessities, for example, food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.
- One form of exercise a day, for example, a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household.
- Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
- Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home.
The Government has also made clear that even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household.
National Park car parks and toilets are closed. National Park Centres and the Dales Countryside Museum are also closed.
The National Park offices in Bainbridge and Grassington are closed with Officers continuing to work from home, and all committee meetings are cancelled until further notice.
If you need to contact the National Park you can e-mail:
Planning – planning@yorkshiredales.org.uk
General Enquiries – info@yorkshiredales.org.uk
And an Officer will be in touch.
We continue to review the situation daily and we would advise people to keep up to date with the latest information at www.yorkshiredales.org.uk
Hello. I walk early in the morning from the old bridge at Bolton Abbey to the foot bridge at the priory. I am on the understanding that the far side of the river is not Yorkshire dales controlled. Could you verify this please? I believe it is owned by the farmer ? I also know that I am allowed one hours exercise and that park( parkland ) will remain open for this. The government has said that you may drive to these spaces for exercise Waiting for your reply. Thank you. Mrs Fletcher
Hi Mrs Fletcher, public rights of way remain open and we have provided information on their use on the front page of the website. This guidance is in line with the latest Government advice.
I notice that North Yorkshire police will be conducting spot checks on car journeys: https://www.itv.com/news/calendar/2020-03-26/north-yorkshire-police-to-introduce-checkpoints-to-enforce-lockdown/?fbclid=IwAR2ZhgC0R9V9CWyRa1f4RGUOHnQXXBS0KlFLuedcDzehMTEnoq6L6pLN9mA
That’s right. They will in the National Park throughout the weekend.
More bikes than cars in the Dales today. This is not essential travel and not normal daily exercise. No doubt lots of them drove to Dales area and then had a ride round on quiet roads. Hope the police tackle this as well. Daily exercise is one thing in the area you live but does not include a nice Tour de Yorkshire !!!
The Government guidance is clear. Stay home, Protect the NHS, Save lives. North Yorkshire Police are currently reinforcing this message across the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
