Dairy Days drawings

Wednesday 28 August, 2019, by Karen Griffiths

It’s all hands to the pumps at the moment getting the Dairy Days exhibition ready to open on 12 September at the Dales Countryside Museum.

We commissioned some reconstruction drawings to illustrate some of the topics and they have just arrived from the hands of local artist James Innerdale. We couldn’t be more delighted with them.

Here’s a sneak preview of one of them – how we imagine Jane Elizabeth Thwaite would have looked after a hard day on the farm and in the dairy, after the children have gone to bed, writing up her latest cheese and butter sales in her little account book. We’ll have the original book on display as well, dating to the late nineteenth century. A magical window into this otherwise unknown woman’s life.
