Education

The Yorkshire Dales is a wonderful outdoor classroom, bringing learning to life for children and young people.

We offer curriculum-based education sessions for primary school, secondary school, college, university and further education groups. Sessions include geography fieldwork and science investigations, discovery walks and well-being sessions. The Dales Countryside Museum offers history-themed sessions at the centre in Hawes.

Most of our sessions are free of charge and we loan waterproofs and other equipment. We have a small transport fund to help with the cost of visits. Find out more about our sessions here. We plan sessions to meet the needs of the group, including group and individual additional needs. We welcome groups from all backgrounds.

We also provide training for group leaders including primary teacher training sessions, which offer practical advice and resources to enable teachers to run their own sessions. Alternatively, our Ambassador School supports schools to deliver a programme of outdoor learning themselves.

We support young people with awards, such as the volunteering aspect of The Duke of Edinburgh Award and Scout and Guide Awards.

Our learning and education resources include a range of informative factsheets for teachers and students, a map of the National Park and resources to help you plan your visit.
