Wensleydale Creamery

The Wensleydale Creamery is situated in the market town of Hawes in Wensleydale in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, surrounded by the most stunning Dales landscape.

The Creamery is home of the famous Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese and is an award-winning, independent traditional cheese-maker and specialist blender of cheese. Whilst producing approximately 4000 tonnes of cheese, they make a wonderful range of artisan cheeses created using traditional methods and handcraft their cheese to time-honoured recipes, using milk from local farms, as well as being innovative with the development of new cheese recipes. In December 2013, their Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese achieved European Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).

Did you know? Today’s burgeoning cheese scene across the Dales is thanks in part to the Cistercian monks who brought their fromage-making skills over from Normandy. They settled at abbeys such as Jervaulx and Fountains back in the 11th century and started making Wensleydale cheese.
