A gentle stroll through flower-filled fields brings you to the cool depths of Troller's Gill. Most of the year the stream bed is dry, the water flows underground, but during heavy rain, take care, the rocks can be very slippy.

The gloomy gorge has inspired several folk tales including one about a magical dog living there called the Barguest that turns you to stone with one look from its huge eyes.

Look out for the remains of leadmining in the area and some of the special plants that grow on lead spoil heaps. 

Nearby Parcevall Hall Gardens is worth a detour if you have the time.
