Ripley Castle

Ripley Castle has been home to the Ingilby family for over 700 years. If you choose to take a tour of the Castle, there are fascinating stories to be told about the Castle and its inhabitants. Having belonged to the same family for 26 generations, Ripley’s colourful and sometimes gruesome history is well documented. If the Castle walls could talk they would tell the story of kings and queens; civil war and plagues; secrets concealed behind the Knight’s Chamber panelling; the swashbuckling daughter who held Oliver Cromwell at gunpoint in the library, and numerous clandestine affairs.

Within the Ripley Castle gardens are the large Victorian-walled garden with floral and shrub borders.

The inner walled garden shows vegetables ,herb garden and fruit orchard.  Extensive hot houses abound with rare plants and spices.

Visitors also enjoy the extensive pleasure grounds with mature trees and woodland walk and a lakeside walk through the ancient Deer Park.

Trails and activities for children include bug hunts and playground areas.
