Volunteering in archaeology

There are a number opportunities to volunteer in archaeology with the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, both in practical field work activities such as excavations and surveys, as well as in our monitoring programmes, helping with the Dales Archaeology Day and assisting with data entry or other HER (Historic Environment Record) tasks. The following outlines our present volunteering roles:

Community Archaeology Projects: Usually involves practical archaeological fieldwork such as surveys, excavations and test pitting, as well as training opportunities.

Dales Archaeology Day: Each year a small number of volunteers help with running our annual day conference.

HER Volunteer: Depending on availability, volunteer help is sometimes needed with data entry and other HER tasks.

If you are interested in volunteering for one of the above, please email us at herinfo@yorkshiredales.org.uk and tell us what you are interesting in doing. You can also ask to be added to our historic environment mailing list, to hear about events and opportunities via email. For general information about volunteering in the Yorkshire Dales National Park see here.
