Why you should take part in this year’s Cheese Festival

Thursday 19 April, 2018, by Katy Foxford

We are already very excited about the prospect of our 2018 Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival and this year we want it to be even bigger and better!

There are so many ways to get involved, whether you are local, a visitor or a Yorkshire Dales business.
From Saturday 15 to Sunday 23 September 2018, all across the Yorkshire Dales, we are asking restaurants, cafes, farms and attractions to come together to champion the fantastic range of food that is produced right here on our doorstep.

We hope that local businesses will jump on board the cheese wagon and create their own cheese-related events or themed menus.

Businesses who took part in our very first Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival last year gave it a definite thumbs up. They told us of the many benefits it brought to them as a business and why they think it is important to support the event in 2018.

Anna Burdon, Jervaulx Abbey
“We are a family business – nearly 25 years the tearooms has been open. We always wanted to support local businesses and make as much of what we offer as possible ourselves.
This area is full of amazing people creating some amazing food and produce. This event is a perfect opportunity to come together and support each other, introducing customers to local producers and finding more local businesses ourselves.

By doing these events, it opens up so many possibilities for partnerships or interesting food and produce collaborations, very exciting and right on the doorstep.
Supporting local and smaller businesses is vital and that’s why we get involved, we rely on the local support to keep us going also.”

Guy Fairhurst, Bolton Castle
“Fairhursts Catering Ltd. has been in business since the 1980s. We are an outside catering company, based at Bolton Castle, supplying for every occasion, from corporate events and weddings to buffets and in house dining.

We were a big supporter of the first Cheese Festival and will continue to do that in 2018. We will again be taking part in cookery demonstrations and, of course, the family game evening at Bolton Castle. It’s important to support all game events as it is such a massive industry and so important to the Yorkshire Dales.”

James Ratcliffe, The Three Hares Cafe
“The Three Hares is a family run cafe, bistro and bakery, specialising in seasonal, locally-sourced produce with a ‘Field To Fork, ‘Nose To Tail’ philosophy.

The Cheese Festival gives us the chance to celebrate a product unique to the area, with many artisan producers around us. We pulled in people from around the Dales to our ‘Taste of The Dales’ evening and will be looking to do even more in 2018!”

Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival 2018 coming your way soon!

The Cheese Festival gives a great opportunity to work with other businesses, linking together, sharing information and knowledge, and advertising each other’s events to create a full programme of exciting activities.

We’ll be promoting the event through national and local newspapers and radio, as well as on social media, our blog and website, to showcase as many local businesses as possible. We received great coverage last year, with mentions in national press, an article in the Yorkshire Post and regular interviews on Dales Radio, as well as paid ads in regional media such as Richmondshire Today .
Keep an eye on our website for full details of the Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival 2018 as we get nearer the time.

Don’t forget! If you are a local business, keep up to date with tips and offers from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’s tourism team by following Yorkshire Dales National Park Tourism Partnership: communication group on Facebook.
