Over the past seven years, poet and novelist Katie Hale has traced 400 years of her family’s history, through 12 generations of women, on both sides of the Atlantic. What started as a feeling of pride in her female heritage soon changed, as she discovered ancestors who were slave-owners, plantation owners, and farmers of land stolen from native people. In this event, Katie will talk about the research process, and read poems from her new book White Ghosts, which explores this difficult family history. The reading will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.
