We are Golden! Celebration Day

Venue:
The Green Howards Museum, Richmond North Yorkshire DL10 4QN United Kingdom

Marking 50 years here at home in the middle of Richmond. It’s a special day for us all to share, whether you’ve been here many times before, have a family connection, or are visiting for the very first time – you’re welcome!

Free admission for local people. Just bring proof of DL9 or DL10 residence to get free entry all day to the museum, including our current special exhibition, Great Escapes. Make sure you visit the Normanby Room and find out more about our plans to enhance this special space.

Reminiscence and memory-banking session. Do you remember the official opening day? Were you here in Richmond when HM King Olav V of Norway did the honours and declared us ‘open’ on 25 July 1973?

We’d love to hear from you, and if you have any photos from the day, we’d love to see them too. Bring them along on the day and we will make a record of your memories for use in our display in the museum entrance and a new online exhibition later in the year. We also want to hear from people who have memories of the building before it became a museum.

If you can’t make it on the day, but want to get involved by sharing your images and memories, just email us instead.

The museum marks 50 years in its home in the middle of Richmond. This event is part of a programme of activities happening during 2023 to make the most of this milestone year, and raise funds as part of a three-year project to enhance a much-loved, well-used space in the museum; The Normanby Room. Find out more here.
