Tracing past lives performance
Venue:
Dales Countryside Museum, Station YardHawes, North Yorkshire DL8 3NT United Kingdom

Through this performance, Brighid Black will explore the deep time history of caves in the Yorkshire Dales. Brighid is an artist, writer and PhD researcher, working mainly with performance and sound and she will be presenting some of her research into the archaeology and palaeontology of Victoria, Jubilee and Attermire caves in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The performance will take the form of a contemporary ritual, remembering the beings who inhabit the underground and a time when caves were inhabited by hyenas, brown bears and wolves, and later by humans.
The performance will consider how we can relate to these traces of past lives now and in the future in a time of climate warming and the extinction of many species.
This will involve movement, mask-wearing, singing and chanting. There will be some drumming and use of rattles.
Audience members may be invited to join in with rattling/drumming at the end of the performance.
Sessions 11-12 and 1-2
Included in admission.
