Join Dr Callum Macgregor from the University of Hull to discover how light pollution impacts on nocturnal wildlife. Dark skies are not just important to astronomers, but also to the many animals and plants that make use of the night-time, not least moths! Callum will discuss how, far from being pests of wardrobes and carpets, moths make an important contribution to the health of ecosystems by providing nocturnal pollination to plants. He’ll then describe how this “ecosystem service”, and many others, are threatened by artificial light at night.

This event takes place as part of the National Parks Virtual Dark Skies Festival 2021, an annual celebration of the wonderful dark skies above the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors International Dark Sky Reserves.
