Smarber Chapel an Corpse Way

From Holy Trinity Church Low Row, the walk climbs up Peatgate, then follows the Corpse Way passing the ‘Dead House’ where coffins were left overnight.  Then onto Blades where John Wesley first preached in Swaledale.  We will then visit the ruins of Smarber Chapel, created in 1690 by Lord Wharton converting part of his shooting lodge into a non-conformist place of worship.  Then a walk along the riverbank to Isle Bridge and a visit to Low Row URC chapel which replaced Smarber.
