Slow Burn Exhibition

Craven Arts House, Skipton, is pleased to announce Slow Burn, an evocative new exhibition running from 22nd May to 15th June. This unique showcase brings together the works of four local artists who explore the environmental impact and historical significance of industrial heritage through drawing, painting, poetry, and photography.

Inspired by the Craven Lime Works in Langcliffe, artists Tim Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Luke Thompson, and Rose Wheeler have immersed themselves in the quarry’s striking landscape, creating evocative visual and written responses that celebrate its beauty and intricate history. As Elizabeth Smith eloquently states, “Langcliffe Quarry carries the weight of time. Art allows us to reclaim forgotten landscapes, turning remnants of industry into moments of reflection and beauty.” Their work captures the evolving relationship between nature and industry, shedding light on the quiet transformation of the land—where human legacy fades into the embrace of time and nature slowly reclaims its space.

Slow Burn invites visitors to experience these diverse perspectives and engage with the thoughtful dialogue between art and environment. Entry is free, and the exhibition will be open Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 4pm.

To mark the exhibition’s launch, an open viewing will take place on Friday, 23rd May, from 5pm to 8pm, offering an opportunity to meet the artists, enjoy drinks and nibbles, and explore the works in a welcoming atmosphere.
