Phil Warren, the Merlin Magic Project Officer will provide an update on the findings of the Merlin Magic Project a 20-month project where we have investigated merlin nesting habitats on heather moorland; assessed whether the availability of small birds, key prey during the breeding season is limiting; and deployed nest cameras to collect information on prey provisioning rates to nests.

Merlin Magic is a project that aims to help conserve merlin, the UK’s smallest bird of prey which has been Red-listed as a Bird of Conservation Concern following recent declines in numbers. Scientists, gamekeepers, and raptor workers have collaborated to study breeding merlin on our moorlands and to help better understand how we can guide conservation to support both merlin and other species in upland habitats.

Free of charge, donations welcomed.
