This fascinating talk covers the rich history of lead mining in Swaledale from Roman times.  We will discuss methods of mining, the role of women and children in the mins, the lives of the miners and their families, and the decline of the industry in the last 19th Century.  After the talk concludes there will be a guided tour around our lead mining exhibition in Keld Old School.
