Great Sleddale Hurricane Crash Site Walk
Venue:
Meet at the Ravenseat turnoff from the B6270 west of Keld
Find the isolated crash site of a WWII Hawker Hurricane in Great Sleddale.
On 19 June 1942 a Hawker Hurricane crashed in Great Sleddale while en route from Henlow to Silloth. Its’ pilot, Alexander Ronald Leslie-Manville, was killed. Join us as we visit Great Sleddale, largely abandoned for over 50 years, and the inaccessible, hard to locate crash site. We will also visit a lead mine, copper mine and field enclosures on a grand scale.
We will need to ford the beck several times (there are no bridges) so please wear appropriate footwear. To reach the aircraft wreckage we will need to navigate off-track to the open moor
