Dark Skies Champing™ – Stay at St Mary’s Church in Arkengarthdale

Calling all stargazing enthusiasts! 

The Yorkshire Dales is home to some of the darkest skies in the country.  With large areas of unpolluted night sky, it’s possible to see the Milky Way, planets,meteors and even the Northern Lights– it’s a stargazer’s paradise.

Arkengarthdale is a great place to stargaze –  and a fantastic base from which to participate in the Yorkshire Dales Dark Skies Festival.

Spend a night (or more!) in our beautiful, 19th-century English gothic church and experience unparalleled views of the night sky. St Mary’s can accommodate up to ten guests, so bring your friends and family!   

We’ll provide beds, blankets, cushions, hot drinks, and a heated church interior, so that you can chart the constellations in comfort. We don’t provide sheets, duvets, or sleeping bags, however, so please cosy up under sleeping bags brought from home.  We’ll keep our fingers crossed for clear skies!
