Dales Action Days – Woodland maintenance in Bastow Woods near Grassington

Venue:
Grassington National Park Centre, Grassington BD23 5LB
Two women looking at tree.

Come and get hands-on with us

Volunteering is a different way to experience the National Park.

Our Dales Action Days offer a chance to get outside, meet new people, learn new skills, and take a unique ‘behind the scenes’ look at the National Park and our work.  The time and effort you give on these days helps us conserve this special place.

They are the perfect opportunity to get involved with no long-term commitment – just bring your enthusiasm (and the good weather!).

16/02/2023 and 4/03/2023 Woodland maintenance in Bastow Woods near Grassington

Join us to offer a valuable extra pair of hands (or six) and help us cut back and remove birch to protect the important grasslands in the rare wood pasture environment of Bastow Wood near Grassington. Over lunch hear about the importance of this site and woodlands in the Dales and, for those of you who have a phone we’ll show you how to join the National Parks Look Wild project. This uses a free nature identification app that will name plants and animals for you and contribute to a huge National Park-led citizens’ science project at the same time.

This day is suitable for anyone to join however please bear in mind it will involve being on your feet all day and working on uneven ground.  Whilst we will be in woodlands there is no shelter beyond the trees themselves.

Meet at Grassington National Park Centre at 10.30 am. For those using public transport to Skipton we may be able to provide a limited amount of transport from Skipton to Grassington at 10 am, this will need to be booked with us in advance. Please email kim.scholey@yorkshiredales.org.uk if you have any questions.
