BROADRAKE – Scything with Steve Tomlin

Spend a day learning to scythe using an Austrian Scythe with Steve Tomlin, in the Yorkshire Dales Three Peaks area. Steve has been scything for over 20 years and first taught at Broadrake in 2013 and has been back every year! His course will guide you to scythe efficiently and give you the confidence to to mow safely. Suitable for beginners or those looking to refresh their skills.

All equipment is provided for the day and the course is also an ideal opportunity to buy a scythe kit containing everything you will need. Buy a kit during the course and you can take home the scythe you have set up for yourself and worked with during the day.

Refreshments with home-baking included but please bring your own lunch.

Broadrake is a stunning location beneath the slopes of Whernside, with views of Ingleborough and Ribblehead Viaduct. We have restored an upland hay meadow which is a joy to scythe with lots of traditional meadow species abundant with butterflies and bumblebees.
