BROADRAKE – Oak/Ash Hurdle Gates
Venue:
Broadrake, Chapel-le-Dale Ingleton North Yorkshire LA6 3AX United Kingdom
A new workshop for 2020 – so many people have commented on the hurdle gates that we use to keep the sheep away from our buildings, that we asked Phil Bradley to run a workshop.
Working in pairs, you will split greenwood logs, using froes, splitting chisels and mallets followed by axe work before using shave horses and draw knives to shape the uprights and rails. Oak pegs are used to fasten the rails into the uprights, which should then shrink to hold fast as the hurdle dries.
The hurdles will add character to small access ways in your garden, if you don’t need to keep sheep out! They can be set into sturdy small bases, or could be hung as a gate.
The price is for a pair working together, so that a small hurdle can be achieved in one day.
There will be a small additional greenwood materials charge made on the day.
