BROADRAKE – Frame Baskets
Venue:
Broadrake, Chapel-le-Dale Ingleton North Yorkshire LA6 3AX United Kingdom
A 2 day workshop with Phil Bradley.
Frame baskets are one of the earliest forms of basket shape, and the position of the curved ribs will dictate the overall depth of the basket, from almost flat, as a platter, to deeper, for a lovely fruit bowl, or gathering basket for the garden.
This workshop uses willow harvested in January which has had time to shrink but still retain a lovely bendy quality. This fresh willow will behave well as you guide it in and out of the framework starting with decorative weaves to fasten in the main ribs to the round frame and essential for the finer weaves in the centre of the basket.
Phil’s gentle, relaxed teaching style will guide you through the various stages of the basket – the frame, ribs, the body weaves and a handle if required. You will gain an understanding of how the willow behaves as you weave and after the final trimming up you will have a useful basket you will be proud of to take home.
There is a £30 charge for the organic willow, payable to Phil on the day. All the tools required will be provided.
