Barbon to Casterton Round
Venue:Barbon Village Hall, New Road
Barbon, Carnforth, LA6 2LL
Booking for this walk is closed until further notice
Join us on this pleasant low-level 8 mile (12.9 km) walk taking in fields and quiet country lanes in the valley of the River Lune, with lovely views across to the hills.
There are several points of interest, including the Bronte sisters’ connection to Casterton, and various country houses – Barbon Manor, Casterton Hall and Whelprigg, as well as the Roman road from Ribchester to Carlisle and the dismantled railway, both of which ran along the valley. You may wish to end your walk with a visit to Barbon Church, which is believed to date back to the 12th century, or at the Barbon Inn, a 17th century coaching house!
The route includes steps, stiles, uneven ground and slight gradients across open countryside. Please wear outdoor clothing appropriate for the weather and sturdy footwear with good grips. Walking boots recommended.
Don’t forget your packed lunch!
Walk starts from Barbon Village Hall, LA6 2LL.
Dogs not allowed (assistance dogs welcome but must be able to manage the stiles).
Places limited, booking advisable.
