Brackenber Barn is a private apartment in an old Cumbrian farm house, built in 1752. It has 2 bedrooms, a shower room, a cinema room with a 65” TV and an oak frame conservatory, heated by a log burner, from which you can step into the lovely garden and enjoy excellent scenery.
The kitchen is compact with hobs, oven/microwave & coffee machine.
We are in the Westmorland Dales, between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales. It’s the ideal location for cycling, walking, photography and wildlife watching.
The Barn is a luxury private section of an old hill top farm built in 1752. You can park outside your door and enter via the oak framed conservatory/kitchenette which has a cosy log burner in the corner, a table and some comfy chairs. Then you have a private shower room and WC. Next is your own Cinema Room with a film library and 65inch 4k tv with surround sound. Then a hallway with a comfy reading chair leading to a double bedroom and also a twin bedroom. Both have windows, wooden beamed ceilings, reading lights and a vanity unit with a sink and mirror.
All bedding and a set of towels are provided.
The accommodation also has a Nespresso coffee machine, a fancy microwave that is also an oven and grill but its small, a 4-point induction hob, kettle, toaster, fridge, a cosy log burner, a bluetooth speaker and some OK Wi-Fi but it’s not super fast! The kitchen/dining area is quite compact but very cosy and lovely in the summer when you can open the double doors and walk directly into the lovely garden.
All kitchen utensils are provided.
The Cinema Room has a Sony PS3 with a limited selection of games and an electric drum machine - fun for kids! Also a DVD player and a film library including hi-res Blu-ray DVD’s to choose from, free of charge. It’s a really funky dark room with a heater and black leather sofa. The cinema surround sound is amazing but no Wi-Fi in here.
Outside you have your own section of garden with a covered sitting area. The garden is full of wildlife and the fields are most interesting during lambing time which starts about the 17 March and then afterwards the wild flowers grow till the grass is cut on about the 10 July. All the sheep and cows and sometimes the horses and a donkey are allowed back in soon after.
During clear nights the star gazing here is very good.
Guests can only access the part of the old hill top farm that is Brackenber Barn and the garden area allocated to the barn. Plus they have two parking spots, both off-road on our private land. Very safe and secure and right next to the front door of the barn.
No stairs in the barn, just the odd step but some narrow ish door ways. It’s a very old house, built in 1752, so it’s a bit draughty if you are used to a new build. But great if you love fresh air!
The ‘House Manual’ for this listing contains detailed info regarding how to operate all the electrical equipment in Brackenber Barn and its worth looking at...it will save you lots of time.
Jon is your host and can arrange a bespoke holiday experience for you including E-Bike hire, a Guided Photography Walk, Stunt Kite hire or a local taxis and much more.
We have a wildlife pond in the garden so please supervise your children carefully when they are near it.
