We’re currently looking for a Committees Officer to join us, working 30 hours per week, and provide a high-quality secretariat service to our organisation, focusing on facilitating our committees.

The Role

As a Committees Officer, you will provide a high level of administrative support to Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, including our committees, sub-committees and working groups.

Some of your duties will include:

– Providing advice to our Members on conventions, procedures, precedents and political implications, proportionality, policy and constituency issues
– Arranging meetings, including our annual cycle of Member meetings
– Drafting, amending and approving reports
– Producing minutes at meetings and following up on actions
– Making audio recordings of full Authority and Planning Committee meetings
– Uploading documents to our website and Members’ Extranet

About You

To join us as a Committees Officer, you will need:

– Substantial experience of working in a secretarial and/or administrative role
– Substantial experience of note taking, ideally within a local government setting
– Previous experience of working within local government
– Experience with MS Office
– At a minimum, five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade A* – C including English

A qualification in business, administration, business studies, management or a related area would be beneficial to your application.

    The Role

    As the Communications Manager, you will oversee and deliver all aspects of our communications, including media relations, web and social media, publications and brand development.

    Working with the Senior Management Team, you will:

    – Manage and guide a team delivering media relations and publications
    – Paint an incredible picture of the Park and the Authority to present us in the best light
    – Deliver marketing campaigns to target audiences at a local, regional and national level
    – Take the lead in developing and implementing our communication policies
    – Act as a spokesperson for our organisation when required

    About You

    To join us as our Communications Manager, you will need:

    – Experience of dealing with the media, including handling queries, writing news releases, acting as a spokesperson, organising briefings and gaining positive media coverage
    – Previous experience of website management, including content and usability
    – Strong management skills, including the ability to delegate, motivate and guide your team and colleagues
    – The ability to work with senior management to influence and articulate the direction of communications within an organisation
    – A degree-level qualification in a related subject, such as Marketing or Communications
    – A full driving licence and the willingness to travel between our sites

    A management qualification would be beneficial to your application, as would experience of working in local government or within a National Park authority.

    The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority has a mission to help inspire young people to understand, explore and enhance their environment through educational and skills based activities.

    We believe that every primary school child should have an experience with a National Park, be it a walk to Malham Cove, an investigation into the habitat of the dormouse or a night under the stars. Every connection we help make between a child and our landscape is a chance to inspire a future generation to meet the challenges of our changing environment, and to foster a love of the outdoors.

    You will have a central role in helping us deliver our new education programme, using your passion for education and the outdoors to connect thousands of children with the landscape, nature, and biodiversity of the National Park.

    You will have a proven track record in teaching and a passion for the outdoors. You will  be able to enthusiastically deliver a curriculum of formal education activities to school children and students from early years through to tertiary education including fieldwork sessions, enquiry based work, classroom lessons, assemblies, talks and walks.

    This is the first year of a brand new education programme, there will be a lot to do in a short space of time and we are looking for someone who is a self starter and able to work with little supervision to join our enthusiastic team. You will have strong skills in partnership work and use these to develop relationships and communicate clearly with schools; and you will also have the ability to lead a small team of dedicated and skilled volunteers, with clear direction and good humour.

    The education and engagement team is a busy team, working directly with thousands of people each year to increase understanding, and benefit from the National Park. Activities range from guided walks and experience days to the delivery of a formal education programme.

    The expansion of this education programme has created an opportunity for a full time administrator to join the team. As the first port of call for enquiries you will use your exceptional personal skills to answer queries, your outstanding social media skills to promote our activities, and your advanced excel skills to collect and analyse our data.

    You will be highly organised and able to organise others, this will be essential for managing the bookings for  our education and engagement programme where you will liaise with schools, learning and education staff and volunteers to ensure visits run smoothly.

    We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our Reception service at the Authority’s head office in Bainbridge.

    Professional in your approach with excellent customer service skills and the natural ability to meet and greet a wide range of people, you will provide a customer-focused, professional and effective reception and administrative service to both our external and internal customers and be the first point of contact for visitors and residents of the National Park.

    You will be required to operate the central switchboard where you’ll answer and process calls and enquiries efficiently and professionally; deal with and process incoming and outgoing post; and undertake a variety of administrative tasks.

    IT skills are important as is experience of working in a customer facing role.
