Business support and promotion

We support tourism that delivers exceptional visitor experiences that strengthen the socio-economic wellbeing of our communities and encourage enjoyment and respect of the area’s special qualities. This can only be achieved by working with others. In addition to the resources we have put together for you to use, listed below are the current opportunities we have identified for working together and ways in which you can promote your business. This list isn’t exhaustive and if you think there are other opportunities for working together, please contact the Tourism team.

Promote your business

Our website contains a huge amount of information about the Yorkshire Dales, including accommodation, attractions, places to eat. We have recently been working hard to update and improve the visitor section of our website. It is still work in progress (including improving the search facility) and we know there are sections that are incomplete and need updating. We are hoping to eventually list all tourism businesses operating in the National Park so if you would like to be included for FREE please contact us. All you need to do is provide us with the following information, listed at the bottom of our ‘Where to stay’ page.

We have a high number of entries that are missing an image and we’d love to feature more, so if you are able, please don’t forget to send us an image (landscape in orientation and larger than 2000px wide) to feature alongside your listing.

If you have an experience which you can offer, we have a ‘Workshops and experiences’ page where we list a variety of creative courses, hands-on workshops and unique, bespoke classes. Let us know and we’ll include your business on this page.

Our Festivals

Our Festivals are a great way to promote your businesses and capitalise on the special qualities the National Park has to offer. Two of our special qualities which the Yorkshire Dales National Park is recognised for are dark skies and local produce. To celebrate this, and mark the area as a destination to experience these special qualities, the Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival and the Dark Skies Festival were developed to promote this. They also create an opportunity for businesses to attract visitors at an off peak time of year, in turn, extending the visitor season. Hosting a Dark Skies Festival event or creating a unique experience for the Cheese Festival will benefit your business in so many ways.

As a local business why not take part in our next upcoming Festivals? We’ve some suggestions on how you might get involved but if you have other suggestions, we’d love to hear from you!

Become a Dark Sky Friendly business

The Yorkshire Dales National Park is now an International Dark Sky Reserve and we are offering tourism businesses the opportunity to become recognised as an official Dark Sky Friendly business by signing up to our Dark Sky Friendly initiative. It’s FREE to apply and open to businesses which can offer facilities, services and information to visitors specifically wanting to enjoy our dark skies. Successful applications will be provided with a ‘Yorkshire Dales Dark Sky Friendly Business’ logo to use and will be highlighted on our website as being Dark Sky Friendly. Find out how to get involved on our ‘Become a Dark Sky Friendly’ page.

Promote your event

Have you got an event taking place in or around the Yorkshire Dales National Park? If so, you can now add your event to our online events listing and promote to our website’s quarter of a million annual visitors. Linking to local events is a great way to attract visitors and encourage them to stay a bit longer.

Free access to our Photo Library

Available to Yorkshire Dales businesses, we can provide you with a library of free professional photographs which you can use on your website or in promotional material. Just register an account and, as a local business, access a superb collection of images – all we ask is that you credit the photographer. The images include landscapes, well known attractions, people out enjoying the countryside and also taking advantage of pubs and cafes. We are continually updating the range of photographs we have, so if you have any suggestions of what sort of photos would be useful to you please let us know.

Use the National Park brand

The Yorkshire Dales National Park logo provides a strong identity for this beautiful area and is also a nationally-recognised brand. If you are a business, community group, individual or charity working in the National Park, or you are holding an event in or about the National Park, you can highlight your association with the area by applying for a license to use one of five logos developed especially for you.
