Since the fantastic news that the Yorkshire Dales National Park is now an International Dark Sky Reserve, you can now officially become a Dark Sky Friendly Business! It’s FREE and open to business which can offer facilities, services and information to visitors specifically wanting to enjoy our dark skies.
The Yorkshire Dales Dark Skies Festival, held each year in February, is made up of events hosted by local tourism businesses and promoted jointly by the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks. As a local business why not take part in our next Dark Skies Festival? Our Fringe Festival will take place on the 22nd to 31st October 2021 and our Dark Skies Festival is on from the 18th February to the 6th March 2022. It is a fantastic opportunity to promote your business, and this can be done in several ways.
We now have a database on our website where you can have your own business listing. If you would like to be added or have any information changed please can you email the Tourism team and we will be happy to update this for you.
We periodically send newsletters to tourism businesses with our news and updates. You can download our latest “Tourism Talk” newsletter here. If you’re a tourism business and would like to receive a copy by email, please contact us.
A number of years ago we worked with tourism businesses to identify what made the area distinctive and special and how businesses could use this information to benefit their business. As part of this, we created the Distinctly Dales handbook, available online or in a paper form. It gives tips on how to “local distinctiveness” information to market your business.
In addition to the resources we can provide, we can also point you in the right direction for advice on applying for money from our Sustainable Development Fund and where to go information for planning advice.
We can also provide you with information on what you might need to consider when attracting certain markets. Such as information on:
- How to make your business cycle friendly
- How to become a Dark Sky Friendly business
- How your business can help support wildlife conservation
- Going green and the things you might consider
The Yorkshire Dales National Park runs a number of events and workshops throughout the year aimed at tourism businesses. These give an opportunity to meet other businesses and talk about tourism initiatives in the area.
