Jimmy the donkey

Friday 12 July, 2019, by Karen Griffiths

Our volunteers are busy testing out the various walk routes we will be publishing over the coming months. One has been having a lovely time in Castle Bolton chatting to various people and collecting some amazing photos of local farming families – we especially loved this set of photos of Jimmy the donkey who we’ve met already in a couple of blogs. He belonged to the Bostock family who Ian Spensley knew well as a child. Steve Bostock kindly loaned them so we could have them scanned for the Dairy Days archive.

The donkey was an essential part of the farm workforce, helping to carry full back cans of milk up from the fields where the cows were milked every day.
