Walk

A guided day walk as part of a small group of usually no more than six people plus your guide, to enjoy the stunning Ingleton Waterfalls Trail and to explore the beautiful limestone area of Twistleton.

The Ingleton Waterfalls are a well known tourist attraction on private land. The owners have installed pathways and railings to make them accessible, and they charge an entrance fee. You could argue that you don’t need a guide to walk this trail, but it is so beautiful, we just couldn’t resist the temptation to combine it with a guided walk on nearby Twisleton.

We start our walk along the waterfalls trail, following the River Twiss upstream, pausing to admire several impressive waterfalls. We then make our way up the hillside onto the flat area known as Twisleton, initially following part of the long distance Pennine Journey path with fine views ahead towards the mountain of Whenside and the famous Ribblehead viaduct. Our return route takes us through some fine examples of the geological feature known as limestone pavement. We walk along the edge of Twistleton Scars with great views across to the mountain of Ingleborough. The final part of our walk takes us down the second part of the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, following the course of the River Doe as it cascades its way down the hillside.

The distance is about 10 miles/16km with approx 470 metres of ascent. Paths are uneven in places and can be slippery. On Twistleton part of the walk is on pathless ground that is rough, and in places boggy or stony.  Proper hiking boots and outdoor clothing are essential for this walk.

Young people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Sorry so dogs (except assistance dogs)

Advance booking and payment is required to join this walk.  Please book via the website link.
