Shanghai: Revolutionary City

The Green Howards Museum, Richmond North Yorkshire DL10 4QN United Kingdom

Thursday 24 October 7pm to 8.30pm

During the 1920s, Shanghai was crawling with spies, missionaries, political agitators and colonial entrepreneurs.  Many countries, including Britain, made lucrative treaties with the Chinese, enabling them to establish trading outposts outside the ancient fortress city, and channel much-needed cash into near bankrupt post-war economies back home.  The Green Howards were part of this intoxicating environment.  Museum Director, Lynda Powell explores the role of the men sent to Shanghai to serve British interests.
