Dave Johns: From Byker to the BAFTAs

Dave Johns is one of the most respected and best loved comedians working on the British comedy circuit. An avuncular Geordie with plenty to say and some amazing fun facts, Dave has performed extensively in venues, clubs and festivals in the UK and worldwide for over 30 years, and is a popular guest on television comedy shows.

2016 saw Dave play the lead role in Ken Loach’s critically acclaimed and multi award winning film I, DANIEL BLAKE which won the Palme D’or at the Cannes Film Festival and the BAFTA for the Outstanding British Film. As Daniel, Dave received glowing reviews and numerous award nominations.

Dave is also a talented improviser, making regular guest appearances with the Comedy Store Players in London’s West End. He also appeared with Christian Slater on the West End stage in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and performed in numerous plays at the Edinburgh Fringe. He once said to Christian Slater “I just want to say, Christian, I really loved the movie Minority Report.” To which Christian answered “I wasn’t in Minority Report” To which Dave answered “I know, I just wanted to say I really loved it”. They became great buddies after that.
