The dictionary defines alchemy as the process of taking something ordinary and turning it into something extraordinary. Discover the extraordinary in this textile exhibition.
TAG is a group of textile artists who meet regularly once a month producing innovative work which can be shared through exhibitions, competitions, workshops and talks. Eco printing was one such workshop led by one of the members. This inspired others to explore this theme further, producing unique pieces with beautiful colours and patterns both on fabric and paper. Some of these have been enhanced on the computer and printed on fabric, some have been hand or machine stitched, some made into books. Ideas for the exhibition have come from nature, playing bridge, a 10th century herbalist and the Big Bang. As the exhibition is in a textile mill, also included are pieces which reflect our textile heritage and the changes there have been over time. This followed research at industrial museums and museum collections from the 18th and 19th centuries. Always included in TAG exhibitions is a group project. This time “Box Clever” is the title using recycled museum specimen boxes. Members have chosen their own subject.
