Dark Skies over Ribblehead viaduct

Protecting our dark sky

The dark night sky in the Yorkshire Dales brings a special sense of wonder and tranquillity – giving us the opportunity to see thousands of stars, the Milky Way, and sometimes the northern lights.

The increasing problem of light pollution is limiting our views of the sky. It also wastes energy, threatens nocturnal wildlife and can even affect our own wellbeing. We need urgent action now to save our dark sky.

Help save our dark sky – sign our pledge

We’re campaigning to make the Yorkshire Dales an International Dark Sky Reserve, to recognise the exceptional nature of our night sky, protect it from further light pollution and help ensure that everyone can understand and enjoy it.

Help support our Dark Sky Reserve bid by signing the pledge below, or using this form.
