Community Heritage Officer

This post is to initiate and support community-based heritage projects and to further engage local people and volunteers in the use, maintenance, recording and enhancement of the special historic environment of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The role is embedded within the Historic Environment Team, and involves occasional support to other historic environment activities.

You will:

  • support data collection and enhancement of the Historic Environment Record for the National Park;
  • assist the design, management and implementation of projects;
  • chase projects that would generate funding to support National Park purposes;
  • assist with practical management programmes to conserve designated heritage assets;
  • deal with enquiries; and
  • take a significant role in the management of heritage events e.g. the annual archaeology day school.

You will be educated to degree level in archaeology, building conservation or a related discipline and will have demonstrable experience of working with historic environment records, project management and working with voluntary groups.

You will be a very effective communicator that is capable of dealing sensitively with landowners, local communities and the media. You will be expected to demonstrate strong inter-personal skills self-motivation, enthusiasm and commitment. Crucially you will have an ability to work independently and flexibly.
