Rewards for Whernside path donations

Bainbridge, 10 September, 2018

A HF Holidays three-night break in the Dales is one reward of many on offer as part of a new crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the repair of a key footpath on Yorkshire’s highest peak, Whernside.

Experiences such as a helicopter ride over the Three Peaks (£500); holidays such as a night at The Traddock in Austwick (£270); gear such as a handcrafted oak finger post sign (£75) or a Three Peaks pin badge (£5); and clothing such as a personalised hooded top (£60) are all available.

The ‘Pitch in for Whernside’ campaign began late last year; so far, about a third of the overall fundraising target of £46,000 has been raised.

The campaign is part of the British Mountaineering Council’s national ‘Mend Our Mountains: Make One Million’ fundraising effort, which is supporting projects in each of the UK’s 15 National Parks.

Area Manager for the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, Kate Hilditch, said:  “I hope that the crowdfunding part of the ‘Pitch in for Whernside’ campaign will bring us into touching distance of the fundraising target. I would like to thank the businesses which have helped us put together a fantastic range of rewards.  This is a chance for people to donate to a good cause and get a little something back. The bigger the donation, the bigger the reward.

“Many people walk the beautiful Three Peaks and that challenges our ability to keep footpaths in good condition. The Bruntscar route on Whernside has become severely eroded and we could really do with a bit of help to repair it. I would ask people to give what they can to the ‘Pitch in for Whernside’ campaign.”
