Bainbridge, 6 November, 2018

The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority is inviting applications to its Sustainable Development Fund (SDF), which still has nearly £90,000 in the pot for this financial year.

The SDF provides a simple and accessible source of money for a wide range of initiatives.

Recent projects to receive support include Garsdale Village Hall energy efficiency improvements; the restoration of the 19th century ‘Book of Bridges’; a ‘slow art’ project in Swaledale; and a study on visitor traffic management at Malham

The Authority’s SDF officer, Andrea Burden, said: “The SDF is there to support projects that contribute in some way to helping conserve the natural beauty, wildlife or cultural heritage of the National Park, or promote opportunities for people to understand and enjoy those special qualities.

“It’s a good time to apply to the fund.  So far this financial year we have been able to allocate £85,907 to 15 projects. We would really welcome more applications and would support projects that look to provide multiple benefits and a good legacy.”

Some of the grants offered this year include:

-       £15,820 for visitor infrastructure linking Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s Smardale National Nature Reserve with Waitby Greenriggs Reserve

-       £9,560 for the refurbishment of the interior of Hawes Market House

-       £3,044 for new interactive displays telling the story of the National Park at Kirkby Lonsdale Tourist Information Centre.

-       £900 towards a new interpretation panel about the former lead mining industry at Hall Green in Arkengarthdale

Enquirers can get in touch by phone - 01969 652337 or by using the SDF email address – SDF@yorkshiredales.org.uk.

An application form and a set of guidance notes can also be downloaded online: http://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/living-and-working/sdf

The fund is open to individuals, community groups, businesses and the voluntary sector.
