Book now: Duke of Edinburgh Gold residential

Bainbridge, 9 January, 2018

Young people going for a Gold Duke of Edinburgh award are being invited to discover what it is like to be a Yorkshire Dales National Park Ranger – and get stuck in to a week of practical conservation tasks.

The summer 2018 residential – “Conserve the Yorkshire Dales” – will be based in Ribblesdale and will take place from 18 to 24 August.

It will be run by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, but a range of different organisations will help to lead the practical tasks – which will include footpath maintenance on the fells, habitat conservation and dry stone walling.

The price per person is £250 and the details are on the YDNPA website, as well as on the Duke of Edinburgh site. The key contact for booking forms is Catherine Kemp, at learning@yorkshiredales.org.uk or on 01756 751641.

Catherine Kemp, the Authority’s Education and Events Manager, said: “Our residential is run by people with a passion for the environment.  This is an opportunity to make a positive contribution to the environment and learn conservation techniques.  Like last year, I’m sure it will be a fantastic week.

“We have some of the best caves in the UK and they are one of our special National Park qualities so as part of the week we will run a caving trip led by local guides.”

Accommodation is in a comfortable bunk barn. All meals and transport during the residential are included in the price, and all equipment is provided. Transport from nearby train stations can be arranged.

This residential is open to anyone aged 16 to 24 and is designed to meet the residential criteria for both the Gold DofE and the Queens Scout/Guides Award.
