Sheep in the Yorkshire Dales

Living in...

People have lived in the Yorkshire Dales for almost 11,000 years and all have left their mark on the landscape. Generations of hunters, herdsmen, farmers, foresters, monks and miners have shaped the Dales. Today they provide a home and workplace for around 20,000 people.

Whilst the Dales can be a wonderful place to live and work, rural communities face many different challenges at the start of the twenty first century. The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority is working closely with communities, local businesses and landowners to face these challenges and to ensure that the National Park has a vibrant and sustainable future.

Twice a year we produce a residents' newspaper 'Dales' which reports on the work of the Authority and its partners.  This year's editions will pop through your letterboxes in March and September.  You can now also view electronic versions of the 'Dales' newspaper online.

If you're looking for a grant for a project which will benefit the environment and your local community, check out our Sustainable Development Fund section.
