Progress update:
A feasibility study for a possible coast to coast mountain bike route linking the Lakes, Dales and Moors National Parks was completed in March 2008. The development of this route is being co-ordinated between the Lakes, Dales and Moors National Park Authorities and Cumbria and North Yorkshire County Councils.
The new Pennine Bridleway is funded by Natural England and is being implemented in the National Park by the National Park Authority. When complete it will run from Derbyshire to Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria. The Yorkshire Dales section of the route is now complete from Mallerstang to Long Preston.
The ‘Way of the Roses’ cycle route from Morecambe to Bridlington has been developed by Sustrans and was launched Sept 2010. It passes through the southern part of the Yorkshire Dales. The YDNPA and neighbouring local authorites have been involved in its development. This route is already proving popular, and is bringing economic benefits to the area.
