Progress update:

‘Sustainable living’ action groups have been set up in each of the three districts in the National Park to progress the environmental objectives in the District Community Strategies. Action plans have been produced and projects addressing issues such as reducing energy use, climate change and waste management are being developed and implemented. Yorkshire Dales Green Communities project (see CC9) is raising awareness of climate change issues in specific communities across the Yorkshire Dales.

Both County Councils are raising awareness of wider environmental issues; eg, North Yorkshire County Council has a Schools Carbon Reduction officer and a number of schools have been encouraged to join the 'Eco-Schools' programme. Bainbridge School is a pilot school in the NYCC 'Schools Climate Change Initiative', and Cumbria County Council launched a Climate Change Communication Programme in 2009.
