Rooms for hire and study facilities: meeting and training facilities
Using the Research RoomThe Dales Countryside Museum is an ideal venue for meetings or training sessions and has rooms available for hire. Presentation equipment can be provided and catering arranged.
An added bonus is that all people attending meetings gain free entry to the Museum.

Research Room
Our research facilities are open 7 days a week 10-5pm which include:
Archive and Census material
Members of the Upper Dales Family History Group on site every Monday to help with enquiries
Internet access, Microfilm reader and Microfiche
Primary resources for local history research
Macfie and Calvert Archive to view by appointment
Refreshment room
Friends and Volunteers are available on Mondays and Wednesdays to assist with enquiries.
Facilities for visitors with disabilities
Visitors using a wheelchair are able to access all areas of the Museum. There are also plenty of items to touch and sound recordings to listen to for visitors with a sensory impairment. The following information provides a detailed description of access to and around the Museum.
Car Park
Tarmac surface, mainly level. Two designated car parking bays for visitors with disabilities, ground marking, 41 metres to National Park Centre. Some benches available on cobbled forecourt.
Access to Hawes National Park Centre and Dales Countryside Museum
Cobbled forecourt with 14cm step or ramp to revolving glass door or outward-opening door, 88cm wide. Alternative entrance to lower ground floor via side-doors (secured double doors, staff assistance required). Lift to upper exhibition area available.
Shop
Level floor and wide aisles. Low level information counter. Seating available.
Access to the Museum Galleries and Exhibition Hall
Goods Shed:
Exhibition on three levels. Lower ground and ground floor are ramped. Access to upper floor via wide shallow staircase with handrails to upper floor or chairlift available - please ask for staff assistance.
Time Tunnel:
Cobbled surface, many angular turns, and minimum width of corridor is 99cm. Access from building to railway carriages via double wooden doors with wooden lintel to cross.
Rail Carriages:
Level access to platform. 124cm wide ramp to rail carriage entrance. Minimum width of carriage corridor is 68 cm.
John Richard Baker Exhibition Hall:
Access via lift or shallow wide stairs with handrail.
Access to public toilets
It is 10 metres from car park to RADAR facility toilet. Adapted toilets are also available in the entrance hall of the museum for all visitors, access via ramp from main lobby to lower ground floor. 4cm step or ramp access to non-adapted toilets have inward opening door, 83cm wide.
