Littondale Ridge
The ridge that separates Wharfedale and Littondale has stiles and gates at wall crossings in Open Access land all the way from above Kettlewell in the south to above Beckermonds in the north. The stiles are on the north-east (Wharfedale) side of the ridge and open up this fantastic walk, which you can tackle in one go or as part of a shorter circular walk from Wharfedale or Littondale.

We have recently carried out some access improvement works adjacent to the river Ure, below Hawes. This riverside public footpath had metal ladder stiles (reputedly erected in the 1960’s) which although of some historic importance, were not the easiest stiles to use, particularly for who are less mobile.
We worked closely with the landowners and, assisted by our Dales Volunteer team, we swapped the ladder stiles for hand gates. The metal stiles have been given a new home by the local fishing association who will be reusing them on private local fisherman’s paths in the area.
Dent
We have been undertaking a barrier reduction scheme on a network of paths east of Dent village along the River Dee, Depdale Beck and Keld Beck. This will in the main replace stiles with gates for ease of walking on this popular network of paths used frequently by locals and visitors.
