The North Yorkshire Geodiversity Partnership was set up in 2004 to raise awareness of geological issues and to develop proposals for Regionally Important Geological Sites (RIGS) in the western part of North Yorkshire. The Partnership includes the British Geological Survey, Natural England, Hanson plc, Harrogate Borough Council, Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, North Yorkshire County Council, Tarmac Ltd and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. With funding from Natural England’s Aggregates Levy, the Partnership is currently completing a geodiversity ‘audit’ of the National Park prior to identifying a shortlist of candidate sites for designation as RIGS
