Progress update:
The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’s Sustainable Development Fund has helped a range of businesses to improve their environmental performance. In 2007/08, this included low cost environmentally friendly bed and breakfast and bunk barn accommodation at Dentdale Eco Barn (ground source heat pump, rainwater and grey water harvesting) and a third phase grant to Gayle Mill, Hawes, to develop the wood working aspects of the business. Local wood is being turned into saleable items such as gates, benches and beams and a range of gifts. In the longer term, work is underway to develop projects that will bring economic benefits to the Park from sustainable management of peatland, and the development of green tourism businesses.
