Progress update:
Work is progressing to increase the delivery of services within or closer to communities, in line with Community Strategy targets. This is taking the form of community consultation and better data collection to improve service delivery, and encouraging local involvement and making best use of IT and outreach facilities to deliver services remotely (eg, video technology, improved internet access, community offices). Specific projects are being developed through the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affair's (DEFRA) Rural, Social and Community Programme to address the needs of the young and elderly. The 2007 Index of Multiple Deprivation figures show a slight improvement since 2004 in relation to barriers to housing and services.
