CC4. By 2011 develop and implement sympathetic traffic management schemes, to reduce the impact of vehicles in at least eight villages and other locations, and achieve accident reduction rates in line with County Councils’ targets.

made towards achieving this objective.
Progress update:
North Yorkshire County Council is working on a series of Service Centre Transportation Strategies which will include areas within the National Park. The programme is as follows: Settle - preparation of the strategy complete and due for adoption July 2008; Hawes - currently out to consultation, due for adoption October 2008; Grassington to be prepared in 2008-09; Richmond and Swaledale to be prepared in 2008-09; West Craven to be prepared 2009-10; Skipton (including areas of the National Park) to be prepared 2009-10; Catterick Garrison (including Hudswell) to be prepared in 2010-11; Leyburn (to include lower Wensleydale and Coverdale) - to be prepared in 2010-11. When implemented these strategies will seek to improve the ability of residents and visitors to access services and move around the area safely on all modes of transport.
Cumbria County Council continues to implement a ranked list of engineering schemes to address locations and routes where casulties have occurred. The Council recognises that there is a need to look at locations where the local community feel there is a high level of risk not associated with casualty figures.
