Progress update:
With support from Sport England, Active Craven and Active Richmond, the National Park Authority ran the ‘Go Dales!’ project from 2008 to July 2011. During its three years, it provided 537 young people (aged 8-25) with over 1,500 activity sessions, in activities such as canoeing, caving, climbing and geocaching. The project developed their skill levels, confidence and knowledge of the National Park. It is hoped that these ‘taster’ sessions and further support will encourage many of them to go on to exercise regularly.
Note: Progress on this objective was intended to be monitored through Sport England’s Active People Survey which was first undertaken in 2006, and was expected that it would be repeated every two years. Unfortunately, the more recent surveys have not been to the same level of statistical accuracy as the original survey (much smaller sample size used) which means that data is not available for the National Park area.
