The National Park Management Plan is the single most important document for the Yorkshire Dales National Park.  It sets out the special qualities of this National Park and how national park purposes will be met in ways that also help to support the local economy and local communities.  Not only does it set the framework for the Authority’s own policies and activities but it will also shape the plans, strategies and actions of all other bodies operating within the National Park, insofar as they affect the national park purposes and duty.

The Plan looks at the seven different elements of the Yorkshire Dales:

• Landscape
• Community and culture
• Access and recreation
• Understanding and enjoyment
• Nature conservation
• Historic environment
• Economy and employment

None of these elements should be considered in isolation.  There are many connections between them and, thus, many objectives that relate to more than just the section in which they appear.  The Plan identifies where these linkages are.
