Member champions
Since July 2006, members of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority have been appointed each year as 'champions' to support, encourage and represent the seven areas of the Authority’s work:
- Conservation of the natural environment
- Conservation of the cultural heritage
- Recreation management
- Promoting understanding
- Development control
- Forward planning
- Corporate and democratic core functions
Their key roles are:
- To represent and champion the individual service internally and externally.
- To assist officers with the implementation of the Authority’s policy and to develop future policy proposals for consideration by the Authority and its committees.
- To report back to the Authority and its committees on their brief.
- To act as a 'sounding board' for senior officers regarding the discussion of new ideas and initiatives, bringing the 'member perspective' to these discussions.
