Rangers
There are currently 18 rangers, along with several apprentices, working throughout the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The National Park is divided into eight areas, each managed by an Area Ranger who is assisted by an Access Ranger.
Rangers have an important role to play in looking after the National Park, protecting and maintaining wildlife, environment and access opportunities of the Yorkshire Dales for all to enjoy, now and in the future. They are responsible for maintaining the public rights of way in the National Park and for managing open access.
The rangers are based in the areas for which they are responsible. This ensures they are easily available as an important point of contact between residents, visitors and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.
Did you know that 95% of the land in the National Park is privately owned?. Because of this, rangers have a difficult task maintaining the balance between the needs of residents who live and work in the National Park and the desire of visitors to share in the beauty of this special place.
Help them maintain that balance by following the Ranger Code

Litter
Litter looks unsightly and can be dangerous for wildlife. The Authority has a policy of not placing litter bins on its property, which includes National Park Centres and Authority car parks. We ask that everyone takes their litter away with them. For more information, read the litter policy statement.
If you see anything of concern or have any questions about looking after the countryside pop into your nearest National Park Centre where staff will always be willing to answer your questions.
Remember, when you are out and about in the National Park, please make sure you follow the Countryside Code.
